My page(s) in my journal done for me by Terri. My name means "bee" in Hebrew and my last name is spelled close to "abielle" (which I think is bee in french). Combine that with my constant reference to being a "Queen" and you have  delightful and enchanting pages. In my "favorite" color robins egg blue and lots of "bling" Terri took it over the top!!! The Puppy "fairy" in this page is my girl "Nuala". She is one of my three Yorkies (I love the breed). She had to improvise my other two "Bailey and Cookie", but she got their personality captured using other puppy images. I hope to show to show all my pages, so many talented ladies have graced it with their own brand of "artistic flair". It is gorgeous to say the least!!!!

Busy Day...

Today Steve went to see our son and to a train show. So I made pie, "five" to be exact. (p.s. Thanks Terri and Chip for taking me to Wolcotts for the apples!)Four traditional apple pies (safely in the freezer), and had just enough dough to make a one crust pie. So I looked through my favorite cookbook ( one of those social collections from women in an area of Michigan, Trenton, I believe) and found a recipe for "Dutch Apple". This one had a sour cream topping. I added some seven grain oatmeal to it, and used brown sugar. It was a big hit here with Steve and Kim! And I finished Nancy's Journal page...(hint: the black fringe and BONUSES)... that's done! Yes I finally got my leaves done for next Saturday's meeting!!!!! THANK GOODNESS they are DONE!! This was a tough one.

What Angers You?

Yeah, I am ready...... I must first give credit to flickr for this image I found there..... Now since this is my "blog" I can get on my little soapbox here and vent, after all I do not have a large following as some bloggers do, but maybe the few of you out there who do read it feel the way I do. I am all about the sharing, and have been fortunate enough to run across some very generous people along the way. I try always to acknowledge a source or where I find something because after all that person was "the one" who gifted me with the fruits of their time and trouble. Am I perfect? No, I honestly have to admit some times I forget where I found something or was so quick to share I have had to "back up" and say thank you after, but when someone points me in a direction ( like when Michelle Ward shared Suzi blu's site with me) I tell people. Where am I going with all of this? I will tell you. A few days ago I came across an item having to do with photography from a site I had been led to by my employer called "Despair.com" last year. I love their "Demotivators" and have shared them, and their site, with many people. I have even posted a few in a previous blog. (You can even visit Flickr where some clever people have made thier own up).I forwarded this item and the site to this Blogger via e-mail. She has shared many things, recipes, and such (and she does acknowledge where she gets those) so I wanted to share with her (she is a very good photographer). Did I expect kudos's or to see my name in big letters on the page of her blog? No, but I did think she would have dropped me an e-mail saying she found the site fun, etc., something. So I checked my e-mail, nothing. I went to her site where today I see she not only linked to this site but posted many of their items. Hey I do not own it, glad she likes them and all. Yet when I went to the comments and read many of them "thanking her for sharing" it started to annoy me. Petty? Silly? maybe, but perhaps it the feeling of being ignored while someone else enjoys the thanks of others, is just not sitting well with me. (She does mention not having the time to respond to "every" e-mail on her site, well how about just the ones who's info you use?). Hey maybe it is just a wild coincidence? (I thought I might throw that out, but I find it just soooo unlikely ). Just a little disappointed I suppose, well I will consider this a learning experience, and think twice before I do it again.

Are You Ready?????

Here it is.........

Yes I know it's winter and I live in Michigan, and it is nice having a "White Christmas", still when you wake to this it's hard. It just seems to last so long and you know it will get worse. This was just a "dusting" according to the weather-person, and the not so distant memories of 4", 6" and 10" snowfalls loom just ahead for the next few months.

I guess this on top of all the economic problems going on right now, it seems a bit much. I have never hated the snow, actually wishing for it around the holiday's. Perhaps it's my age? The thought of scraping windows. waiting for the car to warm up, and driving in rush hour traffic before a salt truck has graced us with their presence has just become to much to face. Still I knew it was coming, and I have lived here long enough to know it will come, what was I thinking? I don't know, maybe I was hoping for another "El Nino".

For those of you familiar with the "Walgreen's" commercials, about the town of "Perfect" where everything goes the way you want it, in my vision this stuff ends the day after New Years Eve, followed by an early spring.

Journal Making

Aren't these nice? Saturday I attended a "Journal" making class at Terri's. We were treated to a homemade breakfast of buttermilk pancakes, breakfast casserole, and hot coffee. I met a couple new students of Terri's, Rose and Ilsa, two very enthusiastic ladies Terri's has met along the way. Along with Kim, Nancy, Therese, and myself we were guided through making signatures, working with modeling paste, and faux metal techniques.

I would like to mention that I have taken a journal making class before, one where I made a journal from a pair of gloves and I was so frustrated, confused, and disappointed that I thought I might never try it again. I must to say that this class was the exact opposite. I had a great time, and my head began to immediately race with thoughts of making more of them.

Originally taught by Jackie Sullivan, Terri put her own spin on a few things, and had everything prepared for us. We all walked out with great looking journals and feeling lucky to have been a part of this class.

Waiting it Out

Thanksgiving Thought....... I am funny about certian things, I find that these de-motivational clips strike a funny bone in me. Perhaps it is because they are laced with a little truth that most of us can identify with. For me when I am a little down, I read them and laugh. Why? Perhaps it is because at times when I feel there is nothing I can do about what is going on in my life, or with those I love, it allows me to step back and see a bit of "humor" in the situation. In this time when "retirement" seems to be a dream we may never reach, or just finding or keeping a job is almost an impossibility, it helps to release some of the anxiety in my life with a few good chuckles. I thought I would share a few

with you.

My Sunday Out....

This was the rug we chose. It has the same golden ochre color in it as the walls, and althought it looks black it is actually a dark chocolate brown backround. It covers a good portion of the floor, I wish it would have been wall to wall. I know people are now in love with wood floors, but I still love carpeting, especially one's like these with older patterns in them. So what do you think? I like it and it makes it feel a little cozier now..

Look at all the goodies I found yesterday. Yeah, from some fun ephemera, to an assortment of jewelry tools from a place closing for half-price, to some lace trim. Steve and I had decided to just spend the day wandering. We then decided to go to the Gibralter Trade Center to look at some area rugs for our room. That's when we found the tools. We also stopped to check out a local flea market. We had so much fun just looking and being together we decided we need to do this more often.

Some Halloween Fun....

Another wonderful "Pre-Halloween" walk through on Tillson St. Where many enjoyed the hospitality of Linda and Doug Pritchard who "by invitation" open their home to those family and friends that come by to preview the Halloween Decorations of those families that live on the street. By seven the streets were so crowded you waited, and waded through all the onlookers who, like myself, enjoy Halloween and love a good scare. I wish I had a better camera, or at least more skill with the one I have, that would have allowed me to get photos of all the various display's. From Doug's corpse rising from his casket, to the glowing fellow in the electric chair, the lost pirates whose skeletons were still enjoying thier rum, as well as the creepy fellow playing his pipe organ as spectres dancing about.......

You see here the delicious spread Linda has out for all those who crave a "bite" before the walk. Her tree is up all year and is decorated according to the season. Above a photo of the kitchen where another "mock" fireplace mantle is decorated, as well as a small red hutch.

All My Children.....

Oh my, aren't they just the sweetest things? What a fun exchange and everyone does the best work. Our Art Group met Saturday, we had our "monthly" exchange.  It was Nancy's turn to pick, she wanted "Paper Dolls".

We had an outline, it had to be a child, mounted on a wood block, and have a back-drop. The rest was up to us.

I can say this is one of the best groups I have been in. If you check out the "shutterfly" in my blog list you can view some of the other works we have done, along with many of Nancy's personal work.

(I am trying to get her to open an etsy shop, so be sure to send her words of encouragement!) Vicky used a photo of her daughter Natalie, and Kim's was our only boy. Terri's girl had beautiful iridescent wings, while Nancy gave each of hers a name. As for me I think I will sit back a little while and enjoy my little works of art.

A Friday with Terri...

As I mentioned in the previous post, my friend Terri Gauthier, and I sometimes get together on a Friday to "play" as she puts it.

This week Terri sent me an e-mail with a piece she saw, and said, why don't we try something like this? I in turn surprised her with the small canvas project you see here (the image was from the "Mind Wide Open" challenge).

Inspired by the book of Kelly Rae Roberts, we played with brayers, paint, stamps, and ink! I love how they came out. 

And here is the piece we did similar to the one that inspired Terri......... don't you just love it??? I do.

This picture does not do justice to it, but I did not have the stamina to get out all the "props" and since it was late the lighting was bad.

I really liked using my brayer to paint and layering it with paper and ink. Another fun afternoon! Thanks  again Terri!

Friday's with Terri....

So my friend Terri (Blooming Ideas) posted a little item we made one day, and "suggested" that I might post a picture of mine. Terri will often invite me on Friday's to come over and "play". She really keeps me on my toes, her mind is always going. When I am with her I become charged by her energy and creativity. Which may be why I made myself crazy for the last two hours trying to get the right shot of this piece.......

I could not decide which photo so here is one more. Gosh I love this iPhoto program that came on my Mac, it took me long enough to learn how to use it, but it has some nice effects. One of which is making my crappy photos look a little better.....

I would like to mention here that I surrounded the crystal ornament with other projects we have done together, the stationary box, the soldered items, and the shadow box.  Mitch Album had "Tuesdays with Maury", and I am lucky to have had "Fridays with Terri". 

A Lovely Find.....

I found this lovely lady at the Flea Market. It is hard to tell here with my lousy photographic dis-abilities, but she is not "shiny" but rather has a soft matte sheen to her. She  is supposed to be a Madonna, hmmmm, hard to say really. She is marked underneath but I don't care about such things I just like her....

Her she is in full, it is just a bust (which is ironic because it doesn't look like she has one) .

Craft Supply Closet a.k.a. I Had A Vision...

Okay, I may have a problem. This is a picture of my closet in the bedroom I converted into a craft room. If it scares you, well let me tell you I literally had a panic attack after I finished it. Yeah I knew I had supplies, but I had packed, shoved, and truly did not realize how bad it was until I did this. This is a very deep closet, now filled floor to ceiling .....

This is another shot looking "into" the closet. Seriously I had a hard time breathing at this point.

Now you may be saying "Why Deb it's only one closet". I wanted to do this for two reasons, 1: I wanted to be able to get to things without having to move stuff around, etc. 2: I wanted to remove the shelves in the room and open it up for more "space". Seemed like a good idea at the time. I had visions of all the room I would have once I moved a lot of my stuff to these shelves. (I should mention here I also packed up three boxes, two with just stamps, I plan to sell) So are the shelves down? How did the whole "space" thing work?

Hmmmmm, not really my vision. Maybe I just need a bigger room?

Dear Lord, as long as the President is going to print up billions of dollars to bail out all those nice RICH bankers, could you please have him print up a few for me. It will make all the taxes I, my children, my grandchildren, great grandchildren will have pay back for them, doing any minimum wage work left in this country a little easier to take. Sure Lord, I know it's nothing but paper backed by lies, debt and promises, but perhaps we could use it to buy a loaf of bread, or burn for heat.  Just a billion or so, a mere trifle by "Bankers and Wall Street" standards. Oh, and lord don't worry that by just "bailing" me out that I might start acting responsible and pay it back with interest, I will let those less fortunate pay it back, just like those nice RICH bankers or Wall Street Big Shots.  I am sure with homeland security the President knows my account number so feel free to have him direct deposit the money to my account, in Euro's if possible. Thank You.

The Ties That Bind

So you see here two charms I recently contributed to the "Ties That Bind" project. For those not familiar with this, it is an Altered Art colaboration to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Research. I did not know that September was Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. I just stumbled upon the banner in a blog and thought I would check it out. I then decided maybe I could help. I have made "charms". So I contacted Kris Henderson and asked. She replied right away, yes, "if" I could have it there before the September 30th deadline. I mailed them out yesterday. I also told a few friends about it, and I see that Terri (Blooming Ideas) has also decided to participate. These altered ties and charms are being used to decorate an Art Doll form, which will be auctioned off. So many wonderful and talented people have donated their time to this project. I Just Needed a Laugh

I just couldn't help myself, this was just too funny. I was in need of a laugh. So I wandered the Internet looking for things to inspire my work in Vicky's journal. It may sound strange, but I think I could do a whole page of these quirky, satirical things and she would love it (not what I plan though).

This isn't getting my page done and I should stop here and get busy. I foolishly tore my craft room apart last week, and while the closet project turned out great, it created a state of chaos in the room. So I have to work and finish up the page. Thank goodness I was able to have a "bird" intervention last week. Terri was witness to me tearing them apart and doing them over. Now I am happy with them, yet I have one more thing to add before I proclaim I am done there too.

Right now Vicky is at Crittenton Hospital waiting for the birth of her first grandchild! She has been waiting since Megan started labor yesterday afternoon. Let's all wish them the best.

I need to get the meal coordinated for the Art Weekend at Nancy's yet too! So no playing this weekend! Which is hard because I have my new toy (my computer), but I am going to be good and work on Vicky's journal page first.......yes that first......I mean it this time

Procrastination: It's not just for Housework

Okay, I do not smoke, but let's pretend that is a "bon-bon" in my hand, or a copy of Somerset Life.......... I have so much to do, that I am getting nothing done. I have had Vicky's journal, and although I have been thinking about it, I have not started it (Are ya worried yet Vicky? I would be). I did start the birds but then decided they looked like "poop", so I am going to start again. I know I have a little time left , but then Steve is working on the closet in my craft room and well I have dust everywhere, and I cannot get to my supplies (Hey, thats my story and I am sticking to it). I want to get these things done, but all the closet stuff is now residing in the middle of the craft room (and the small bedroom), and the dust, so you see it isn't my fault. I am being forced to sit here, eating bon-bons, looking at Somerset Life and thinking about all the things I want to do. I am telling you if "wishing and daydreaming" were enough, the things I could accomplish....... like Vicky's Journal page and those pesky birds...

The Stamp Show

The Return! Yes, we paused for a moment to have our photo taken ,(thank you Steven) after a long, long day at the Novi Stamp show. Tired, happy, giddy with all the "new" rub-bah stamps. Trying to ignore our very, very, very empty pockets. We went, we saw, we spent! Now we sit and compare, what we each purchased, seeing how many of us gravitated to the same stamps, and what we missed, (which by the look of it wasn't much). This year was better, more like the ones Auntie Amy used to host. Not that we stopped for any "make and takes", but more stamps .......and then we all blew our budget at the "Invoke" booth. I can only imagine how much worse it would have been in Paper-bag Studios had been represented there. It was a good day, I can tell because it seemd to go by so fast. Too bad that Vicky opted for the Tiger game...she played it safe. So ladies, (in order left to right) Kim, Nancy, and Terri, (me last) thank you for helping to make it a great day. I can't wait to use my new stamps!

The Latest News!

Well let me start off with telling everyone my son John is back home in Michigan! While I feel bad that his move to Tennessee did not go as he planned, I cannot help but be overjoyed to see him again.

He is so lucky to work for a great company that wanted him back here, they weren't even willing to wait and helped him get back this week. I hope he finds a new band to play with and that he continues pursuing his music.

As for Steve, well they layed off 300 workers and he told me yesterday they are laying off another 30-50 this week. They will go on a four day work week and offer buy-outs too. How I wish our home would sell so we could take the buy-out . So far nothing, but then they are eliminating jobs left and right, so who has any money. Yet they are building more strip malls and we just had two new little stores open up here downtown? I hope soon someone will show up. In the meantime I am going to take apart and paint my "craft" room (pronounced "crap" room by my family).

Stephanie (oldest daughter) just added another pup to her kennel, a cute pit-something. Kim has her new computer and books and is ready for college to begin (yeah Kim). As we rapidly move into fall and my favorite season, I would really like to hear some good news out there. I keep hoping.

Well here it is...all but photo's. As I have said I am a lousy photographer. I either take a crappy photo or don't take any. Still, I do love how it turned out, other than I totally missed the whole "scrap-book" part of the project, it's neat. Do you think Donna Downey would approve???

Making of a Journal

I have to give credit here to Donna Downey, who we are so brazenly imitating (I hope she doesn't mind) for inspiring this attempt. Here is also where I mention that I do not scrap-book, yet was drawn to the cheery coloring and very altered way she approached it in this project. I would love to take a class with her one day but until that time I will have to plug away on my own (and with the help of friends). That said, Terri, Nancy (two very talented ladies) and I played on this project all day Friday and are still working on it. Learning along the way. I must now make an effort to collect some photo's for this project, as I am a crappy photgrapher and do not have a habit of taking them (part of the reason for the whole not scrap-booking thing).
I like the bright colors and having fun making it up as we go along. I also like all the painting and doodling I get to do. Tricky business painting on those acrylic sheets though. I think the secret is to spray with fixative first then add paint, then give a day to completely dry before playing with it. (remember I am winging this). I cannot wait to see what the other's come up with since we seem to be doing our own thing. I have to wrap it up soon, I still have Vicky's journal page, and some birds for a project to do yet!

News

No, this isn't me....but she is so cute in her little polka-dot witch costume. Had a nice time Saturday at my sister Kim's home in "Snover". Nancy, Terri, Vicky, Kim, and I had our monthly "art" meeting. First though we went to the Mennonite Store and Erla's for sausage and meat (boy was my car stuffed with all manner of goodies to take home). We made (well they made I putzed as usual and my project's are still in pieces waiting) CD clocks and fans, then exchanged our journals (finally). Yeah last month Kim and I were brave and were the only ones to exchange, but this month everyone had to. So I have Vicky's...hmmm what to do. I think Kim liked what I did in hers, she did a lovely job on mine. The hardest part is seeing them briefly then handing them over to someone else right away. Still they will be so cool when they are done. Terri and Nancy (brats) have been working on their covers and doing additional pages. Hey I am lucky I exchanged with Kim or I might have not done anything (like someone else, who's name I won't mention).

P.S. Johnny got a call yesterday from UPS asking him to come in next Monday to get his photo ID. Do you think that means he got the job???? I am afraid to say for sure yet......waiting will be hard.

My Latest Slideshow......For Terri G. (because she asked)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! Clean Windows at last! Okay maybe not such a big deal to many but for me and my twenty-six window-ed home (not including the ten on the front porch and the seven on the back porch) , that's a lot of window to clean. I am most fortunate to have a great husband who once I start jumps right in to help me. How did I start? As usual I have been hinting, well bugging DH to power-wash the house. We had road work since March and the dirt.....well lets say I could have planted flowers in the sills there was so much dirt in them from it all. So he dragged out the washer and did the house. I in turn washed the inside windows and all the pesky (and this is the reason I have always disliked mini-blinds)blinds. When I had to stop at three to take Kim for her appointment he took over inside. Today we did the front porch windows too. I need to do the back porch yet, but for now it is just so nice to look out and see a clear view. It just looks so much nicer like this. While these are the nice Wallside windows, and they tilt in for "easy" cleaning, they are rather heavy when you rest them on your legs while cleaning. I have bruises all along my thighs. Still worth it, I just love clean windows....

I painted this. A hummingbird on a bell ornament. My daughter Stephanie decided I had made it for her, so she took it. My other daughter wanted it so I painted one on a mug for her. It was painted all around with trumpet flowers, which right now you cannot see. I still have another fire to go, it takes several firings to get all the color I like, and one more for any gold or enamel. I was looking at these pictures and thinking how much I miss painting. I enjoy doing it but so many things get in the way. I found some pictures of things I painted. I tried to take a picture of what I painted ( I was bad about signing the items though).

I wish our house would sell so Steve could retire and we could move. then I could work part-time and have more time to do things like this. I am just so tired after work and making dinner. The weekends just fly by.

Fouth of July

Shall I tell you what's happening? No, not yet. Too painful. Been a very tumultuous week here. We did get good news (well almost). John got to the wire with his quest for a job. UPS has him waiting for an opening to start him. He is in line with about7 other guys for the job. Still there is a lot of turnover and he may get in, at least that was what he has been told. Say a prayer tonight he gets a call next week. Today is the Fourth of July. Rather quiet downtown. Usually busy and noisy all day with the fair in town. This year the economy and the price of gas has kept people home and so the carnival didn't even get started till about 1:00. Steve and I were amazed at how quiet the day has been. No firecrackers, kids yelling and screaming. Every once in a while you hear something, but it doesn't last. We are home today waiting.....someone was due home this week and we still have not heard anything. I am enjoying the calm, before the storm.

Happy 30th Anniversary!

Today Steven and I celebrate 30 years together! Yes, hard to believe. Through the rough times and the good we have always been there for each other. Happy Anniversary Hon* Here's hoping for another 30!

Graduation Day!

It's over, Kim has graduated and our last child is on their way. Yes even though the ceremonies had to be moved to the soccer stadium (the roof had collapsed on the Phoenix Center), there was a horrible storm outside, and we all got drenched trying to "swim" to our cars, we made it. I wish I could have got a few shots of her, but we were too far from the stage and the seating arrangement was horrible. All in keeping with the whole "I was never meant to have decent graduation photos of my children theme!
We had a beautiful day however for the party on the 14th! Of course then I was so busy cooking and running around I did not get any photos.

Today is Steve's Birthday!!!! (and Memorial Day) He is a great guy and yesterday we had a bar-b-que to celebrate. Well some of us, since Kim was at a concert and John was doing something....another story there. Still it was a beautiful day out and we went tot he flea market then had a nice time with Steph and Pat.

Mother's Day

What a surprise! Mother's Day was a bit sad, rainy and boring. Today at work these beautiful roses were delivered. My daughter Steph and her boyfriend Pat sent me these, aren't they lovely? Not to mention a small box of chocolates. They are just so pretty. I did receive a lovely hand made brass box from Kimberly and flowers from DH Steven. This was a real nice surprise. Thank You.

Has It been That Long?

Really? I guess I am going to have to make more of an effort here. It is just that I am busy. My youngest graduates High school this year. I had a nice "getaway" weekend at a friends where we worked on our Tea Party altered book project. I also finished my pages for the house book project, and my ATC's. Now I have to do a page in my journal to share and a collage heart for the next exchange. You would think that would be enough, but no I invited a couple friends over to solder tomorrow. Not one to leave well enough alone I also booked us (three of us meeting at my home)all to take a wire wrapping class at the local bead shop. Why? Because I thought it would tie in nicely with the soldering? Who know's I am a little ADD with art. One thing takes me to another and before you know it I am going in ten different directions.Silly really since you cannot do it all. Still there is so much out there I want to try. I was doing the suzi blu journal thing but she hasn't really had anything new, I know, like I need more. Well I do have more time now that my hours were cut. I have applied for other jobs but there doesn't seem to be any and I think, that because I still have a job no one takes me seriously. I am taking Cookie to "puppy socialization" Saturday. She is so timid and needs to get more comfortable with other dogs. I will also get a chance to ask the trainer about Nuala. Seems she has some of her mothers "dominance" issue's. I want to nip that in the bud.

Suzi Blu

Okay I like Suzi. I have participated in her art journal assignments, and love her Vlogs. I have three. Bailey, Nuala, and now Cookie! I used to have Nuala's mom, Butters. However, Butters wanted to be "Queen" of the house, and there can only be one of us..... She had "issues" with being in charge. My lovely daughter took her to "camp" to work with her and thats when a couple of lovely ladies expressed a desire to have a doggie like her. Well in a series of events I could never have planned, Butters decided to leave me and go live with them. There she is the "Queen" and is spoiled rotten. She is lovin' it. I miss her, but to tell the truth I do not miss the fighting between Nuala, Bailey and her. So now we have "Cookie"! She is a "love" child of my handsome Boo (Bailey) and another Yorkie, Bella. Born December 9th, the day after my birthday, she is a sweetie. Bailey looks at me as if to say "is she staying?", "Yes" she is. Nuala he older half-sister (love child of Bailey and Butters) has warmed up to her new playmate. So Suzi, I would tell you to invest in a kennel cab or training cage, it is the easiest way to train a dog, and it is where my puppies all go for their bedtime and naps.... each in their own little home. And scheduled feedings! Thats a biggie. My babies eat at 5:00 am and 5:00 pm, potty about 15 minutes after each meal and after some play. Cookie has caught on and at 12 weeks knows what is expected of her. P.S. I get to see Butters as she lives only a couple blocks from my daughters place. She has a car seat and has a special place by the front window where you can see her when you walk by. She looks happy.

It seems there is another blog with the name I have. Yep I did check it out since it was created "after" mine! Its okay though I do not "own" the name just thought I wonder...did we think alike, or did someone see mine and say hey that sounds good to me? Just Curious

New Years Resolution!

Okay, I have been bad. Started this then left it sitting here. So this year I wil update and add to my "blog". I have been admiring Michelle Wards Blog (talented lady), and Suzi Blu (love her little video's). I want to be like that! So this year more effort less daydreaming about what could be.....
